What is the best and easiest software to use to monitor your child's Internet activity remotely?

I am interested in monitoring my daughter's activity on her laptop from my computer - any suggestions on what software I should purchase?

%26gt;%26gt; Where to buy Best parental-control software.Reviews say Safe Eyes, CyberPatrol and CYBERsitter all do a good job blocking questionable websites and monitoring kids' time online, but each program has different advantages. CyberPatrol's big advantage is versatility. It gives parents more options than any competing products. Customization can apply to any or all users. In contrast with CYBERsitter, CyberPatrol is not over-zealous. All parental-control software lets users restrict kids' access to Internet applications like chat, file-sharing or web browsing, but Windows-only CyberPatrol can also restrict access to programs on the computer's hard drive, such as games or finance software. The catch is that CyberPatrol requires an annual subscription, and it can only be installed on one computer. Safe Eyes allows up to three installs.

• Safe Eyes 2006

(*est. $50 per year)

%26gt;%26gt; Where to buy Best for multiple computers.A couple of reviews say Safe Eyes is the best program, and it’s a good choice if your home has more than one computer, since Safe Eyes can be installed on up to three systems (PC or Mac). Its other advantage over CyberPatrol is that Safe Eyes can be controlled from a remote computer over the Internet. In addition, changes become effective immediately -- that's helpful if you're at work and your child needs access to a blocked site or needs extra time online. Safe Eyes is one of the few programs available in a Mac version. Unfortunately, Safe Eyes requires a yearly subscription; if you don't renew, the program won't work at all.

• CYBERsitter 9.0

(*est. $40)

%26gt;%26gt; Where to buy Most aggressive filtering software. If you want program that will block first and ask questions later, reviews point to CYBERsitter as the most aggressive filtering program. A major disadvantage to this program is that it hasn't been upgraded in several years. PC Magazine rated it as an Editor's Choice in August 2004, but has since down-rated it, implying that it has been surpassed by newer versions of competing programs. CYBERsitter lacks the degree of customization you'll find in CyberPatrol or Safe Eyes, but it is more likely to catch and block objectionable content (sometimes at the expense of blocking legitimate sites). CYBERsitter can only be installed on one system and only works in Windows. It does not require an annual fee.

• Windows Vista Parental Controls

(included in Windows Vista, *est. $100 and up, depending on version)

%26gt;%26gt; Where to buy Integrated parental controls.Windows Vista, Microsoft's latest operating system, includes sophisticated parental controls. We found some good early reviews of Vista's filtering controls, though no reviewer has yet compared Vista to CyberPatrol or Safe Eyes. If you buy a new computer or plan to upgrade your operating system to Windows Vista, reviews say you should try Vista's included parental controls before buying standalone software. Also keep in mind that many national ISPs (Internet service providers), including AOL, MSN, Comcast and Earthlink, offer some controls as well. See our Full Story section for coverage of each service
