What motivates a person to purchase software?

I'm interested to know what motivates someone to purchase software for their personal use.

If you know of an article online or otherwise, please point me to it. Your opinions are welcome too.

What motivates a person to purchase software?
By purchasing software one gets the sense of ownership and freedom for executing it in many ways. And more over it is legal!!!
Reply:People are probably most likely to purchase programs that a) do a task that no free software does, or does as well, b) is difficult to pirate, c) is inexpensive, and d) is more likely to be used by people for whom money isn't a big problem.
Reply:laziness, at not wanting to find it for free
Reply:The reason is that they would prefer their computer to do more than sit there as a door stop.
Reply:He usually hasn't discovered where he can get it free.
Reply:It's the same reason that motivates a person to purchase most things: a need (or a want) to solve a problem or give pleasure.
Reply:what motivates them? need for something like a job, want so they can use it for entertainment, desire to use it. Of course this is the way things are done LEGALLY to ensure no one goes to jail for said transaction. From a cheater's point of view, it would probably be less of a hassle then getting it by illegal means.
Reply:I get motivated when I have a strong need to use it and it cannot be got for free.
