I scanned loads of very old pictures (most colloured pics) and would like to work on the images, improve them, etc. What is the best software for that in your opinion? Is there an alternative to photoshop?
What is the best photo restoration software existent in the market?
There are some alternatives to Photoshop, but here is the problem with many of these software packages: limited documentation. If you are a beginner, you need as much documentation as possible and Photoshop has just that. Indeed it can look like a really intimidating piece of software, but in terms of photo-restoration, there are just a handfull of tools that you need to learn, and these tools work icredibly well compared to other software packages. I would suggest going to Amazon.com or any large book retailer and picking up the book Adobe Photoshop restoration and retouching. I provided a link below.
Reply:Photoshop is still the industry standard, but GIMP is an opensource editor available to all, as well as Google's Picasa.
Reply:Gimp is a very powerful albeit not real user friendly alternative. It's also very free! Try it you can always remove it if it doesn't work for you.
