What is a good video software to join 2 video files?

i have tried several video software but with no success. i tried those free ones but after joining the 2 video files i can't convert them to another format. i tried using adobe premiere elements 4.0 but it changes the resolution of my original video file. can someone recommend me a good software that will join 2 video files that will not change the resolution of my source and then i can convert it to iPod format.

Same codec


Same bitrate/data rate/sample size
