What is the best software for hosting a website at home?

What is the best software, which is user-friendly and easy to set up, would you reccomend to host a domain website. I am aware you need a computer on all day.

What is the best software for hosting a website at home?
I would strongly urge you not to do this and to use a server instead. All hosts are bombarded with viruses and internet attacks daily - you will be using your own computer and IP address for this, it truly is not worth the trouble this will potentially cause you.

Your protection could never compete with the likes of a big server who has spent many years developing its protection from these threats. By all means go ahead but it would be so much better for you if you did not do this. The first thing you would need to do if you do go ahead is to buy yourself a static IP address which will cost $80-$100 per month and then have a look at somewhere like this which is indeed user-friendly and easy to set up albeit with the above risks which you will unfortunately get wherever you go.

Reply:Try this site about hosting. I know very little on hosting, but I can find the sites :

Reply:I would go with Apache, whether you're using Windows or Linux for your server. MySQL is a free database if you need that.

I second what someone else says about security. You need to learn a lot to have any sort of chance of keeping your server clean.

It might even be cheaper to pay a web hosting company to host your site than to pay for a static IP address from your ISP.
Reply:Apache or XXAMP
Reply:If you are running your own web site not only do you need a computer on all day, but you need to be in front of it 24/7 to ensure taht it is all up and running.

Unless you are in the business of hosting multiple websites, use a reliable hosting company.

A basic account is £35ish per year for pleny of webspace and data transfer, which is minimal compared to the outlay you would have ig getting a dedicated boradband line to host 1 site at home.

Even if you are hosting multiple web sites reseller account gives around 3Gb web hosting and 50Gb data transfer, that's huge, for about £15 per month to host 20 or so domains, stil cheaper than doing it at home and your paying someone to do all the technical work.
Reply:Windows Home Server isn't too bad.

If you run Linux, go for Apache.
