Is it possible to download software applications from Ares or Limewire without getting a virus?

I would like to share software programs with Ares or Limewire, but anytime I do, my computer gets a major virus... is there any way to avoid getting viruses when downloading software programs? why do I get these viruses, anyway?

possibly.

you just have to be really careful.
Reply:For some reason you can get a virus with a .WMA file, but, some clues I get often are music files that are only a couple hundred kB and MANY small files EXACTLY the same size with many different names relating to your search. These piss me off as I see so many of them when I click on SIZE tab to sort them. Limewire has some virus screening but I urge you to SCAN each and every file that is compressed, exe, etc. with antivirus before even THINKING of using them. MP3 and other bare media files are usually ok though. Good luck!
Reply:Not really. You are sharing your computer with others via Internet connection. Better off using iTunes or Zune (fee involved).
Reply:You see, the problem with downloading software from those places is that it can come from anywhere, and most people do not have good intentions. So people put viruses onto the software to be cruel. As far as I know, however, there is no way to avoid it other than not downloading them or knowing your sources.
Reply:compare the sizes of the files to the real ones off the internet. if they are off don't download it
Reply:nope.
Reply:you idiot you are not suppose to download programs or

executable files from limewire , limewire has viruses lurking

around especially when you download programs and zip

files, use limewire for music and movies and not programs ,

you cannot get a virus downloading mp3's
