What software can I use to determine the type of file if the extension has been deleted?

I once saved a file and removed the extension but am not sure what it is.

Preferably a free software would be great.

What software can I use to determine the type of file if the extension has been deleted?
I think there will be no software to do that.

simple solution is just backup the file %26amp; rename with extension u know.

txr, exe, zip, rar, doc, htm......

If it a very big file in %26gt;300MB, then may be movie file.

then try with gspot from http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

its free %26amp; tell u which format used.

or if its small file then open with notepad %26amp; if u have luck %26amp; patience u can read the file, ext, info........
